100% Restore from tapes dropped more than 25 feet

Drop Test
Few things are more damaging to a tape cartridge than raw impact on a hard surface. Typical data tape cartridges are very fragile with a hard plastic case enclosing fine mechanisms with a surprising number of fragile parts that spool the magnetic tape media. A drop from a few feet on a hard data room floor will damage most tape cartridges and render them unusable, and the data inaccessible - but not VXA.
How We Ran the Test¹
First, we wrote a VXA X-Tape Packet Tape Cartridge with 100 Megabytes of data. For this test, we dropped the cartridge on a hard concrete surface from three different heights, 1.5 meters, 3 meters, and 8 meters (that's more than 25 feet from the roof of our Boulder, Colorado facility!).
We suspect that most any other backup media, including optical, removable disk, and DLT/VS, would not survive any of these drop-test falls!
The Result: 100% Restore
After each drop, the tape was loaded into a VXA-320 tape drive, and the original data was restored without error. Can your backup media do that? Proof positive that it's not just a slogan, VXA Packet Tape Technology truly is "Disaster Tested!"
