Drive LTO Tape
Lto stands for "linear tape open", and it is a format used jointly by a number of companies including Tandberg Data. Customers are the real beneficiaries of this jointly adopted and managed format since it insures their protection.
Prior to adopting this joint standard, if a backup and restore customer wanted to change vendors, it was a major undertaking that required reformatting existing data, or maintaining two systems for some period. The drive lto tape joint standard eliminates this problem since tapes are interchangeable between vendors.
