DDS 2
Digital data storage (DDS) is a format for storing data on tape. It evolved from the old Digital Audio Tape (DAT) format, and a DDS tape could be used in a DAT tape drive (though not the reverse).
DDS 2 is the second generation of the DDS tape format, and it can handle up to 8 gigabytes of data on a 120 minute cartridge.
However, the DDS 2 tape represents an old technology. While it has been attractive to customers due to its low price, those customers sacrifice performance when using it.
Tandberg Data's VXA Packet Drives are the new standard for DDS 2 tape drive users.
With four times the capacity of DDS 2 tape drive units, about twice the data transfer rate, and several orders of magnitude higher reliability, VXA Packet Tape drives and autoloaders from Tandberg Data offer DDS 2 tape drive users a significant upgrade in capacity, performance, and dependability.

*Offer available to U.S. and Canadian customers only.
What makes this possible? VXA Packet Technology is simply a better, more efficient way to store and retrieve data. VXA Packet Tape technology is nothing short of a revolution in data recording and retrieval. Prior to the introduction of VXA Packet Technology, the fundamental architecture and format of tape drives had not changed in more than twenty years.
