The Tandberg Data WEEE Compliance Program

Tandberg Data is an environmentally conscious company. As such, Tandberg Data is fully supportive of the EU Directives concerning Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). Tandberg Data's support of this important directive is detailed below.

WEEE Directives: There are two documents that contain the WEEE requirements. These are WEEE Directive 2002-96-EC, and WEEE Directive 2003-108-EC. Copies can be found here:

WEEE Directive 2002-96-EC (pdf)
WEEE Directive 2003-108-EC (pdf)

Marking of new products: The WEEE directives require that all new product brought into the EU Member States be marked with the "Wheelie Bin" recycling logo, prior to the WEEE implementation date of 13 August 2005.

As of the publication date of this letter, it is apparent that not all EU Member States will have implemented WEEE legislation by the required date.

However, as a part of our environmental commitment, Tandberg Data will label all new products with the "Wheelie Bin," prior to the required date of 13 August 2005.

A picture of the "Wheelie Bin" recycling logo is shown below. This mark is located on the part number sticker on new Tandberg Data products.

In addition, the WEEE directive requires that a mark shall be put on the product to specify that the product was put on the market after the WEEE implementation date of 13 August 2005. The solid bar underneath the "Wheelie Bin" is the mark that Tandberg Data uses to specify that the product was put on the market after 13 August 2005.

Information for Treatment of WEEE: As a part of our Environmental Commitment, and in support of our Distribution Partners and OEM Partners, as well as supporting the requirements of the WEEE Directive, Tandberg Data will provide the necessary information for the reuse and treatment of WEEE as follows:

  1. Information for reuse and treatment of WEEE will be posted on www.tandbergdata.com/us. This information will be available in a product specific format, for each of the products that have entered any of the EU Member States after 13 August 2005.
  2. This information shall identify the different EEE components and materials, as well as the locations of dangerous substances (if any) and preparations in EEE.
  3. Information for reuse and treatment of WEEE will be available in compliance with the WEEE Directive. The Directive requires that treatment facilities be provided reuse and treatment information for each type of new EEE put on the market within one year after the equipment is put on the market. As such, Tandberg Data will provide this information for existing products prior to 13 Aug 2006. For products not yet on the market, this information will be provided within one year after the first shipment of the new product into the market.
