Tandberg Data has released new tape drive firmware for the VXA-2 packet tape drives!
Take advantage of the newest enhancements and changes by upgrading today. The firmware should be installed in all Tandberg Data VXA-2 packet tape drives, whether they are stand-alone or installed in an autoloader or library such as the VXA Packetloader 1x10 1U Autoloader or VXA 1x7 Autoloader.

A history of code revisions which details changes and enhancements in this code revision can be found at this link as well. After downloading the firmware zipfile, extract the V1210E.TFW firmware file from the zipfile.

Firmware Update Instructions
Windows Firmware Update Instructions:- Stop any 3rd party backup services including Removable Storage Service. For example, for Veritas Backup Exec, stop all Backup Exec services. For Computer Associate's ArcServe, stop the ArcServe Tape Engine.
- Start the VXATool software. On the Main Page, select the drive to be updated.
- On the VXATool Main Page, select the Update Drive Firmware button.
- In the Open file dialogue, browse to the directory where the V1210E.TFW code file was saved.
- Select the V1210E.TFW file and the Open button to start the firmware load.
- While the firmware upgrade is in progress, the drive's LEDs will flash (if visible) . DO NOT interrupt a firmware update in progress. When the firmware update is complete, LEDs 1, 2, and 3 will be off and LED 4 will be green.
- Once the firmware upgrade has completed, reboot your server.

- Completely shut down your backup application and any services it may be running. The backup application may prevent communications with the tape drive or may interrupt vxaTool functions resulting in their failure.
- Install vxaTool and open a Terminal window, following the instructions provided in the vxaTool readme file.
- Move the V1210E.TFW file to the Tandberg Data folder where vxaTool is located.
- Enter the following command at the Terminal command prompt and then hit the Enter key:
./vxatool tape1 -F v1210E.tfw - While the firmware upgrade is in progress, the drive's LEDs will flash (if visible) . DO NOT interrupt a firmware update in progress. When the firmware update is complete, LEDs 1, 2, and 3 will be off and LED 4 will be green.
- Once the firmware upgrade has completed, reboot your server.

- Once the firmware upgrade has completed, reboot your server.

- To start ExaTool, load Exatool.nlm from the console.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight the drive that you wish to upload the firmware to and select it by hitting the Enter key. Select the "Upload Firmware" choice. Specify the full path and file name to the firmware file.
- While the firmware upgrade is in progress, the drive's LEDs will flash (if visible) . DO NOT interrupt a firmware update in progress. When the firmware update is complete, LEDs 1, 2, and 3 will be off and LED 4 will be green.
- Once the firmware upgrade has completed, reboot your server.
