IMPORTANT: Interoperability issues may exist when mixing different vendor brands of host bus adapters, switches and hubs within a SAN. For best results, use HBAs from the same vendor throughout the SAN environment. Exabyte cannot guarantee compatibility with un-tested hardware configurations. Exabyte recommends using Fibre channel hardware that includes the following port support.
Standard Fibre Channel Protocols and Compliance:
- SCSI-FCP
- FC-PH 2/3
- FC-AL
- FC-AL 2
- FC-PLDA
- FC-GS 2/3
- FC-FS
- FC-Tape
Class of service
Modes of Operation:
- Switched Fabric (FL_Port and F_Port
- Public Loop (FC-AL, FC-AL
- Point to Point
Performance:
- 1 Gb/s, full duplex, auto negotiate and hard selectable
- 2 Gb/s, Full duplex, auto negotiate and hard selectable
Ports:
- Multimode Fibre Optic
- LC style connectors preferred

- Host Bus Adapters: abbreviated HBA, they are the connection between storage devices and servers, translating the Fibre Channel protocol to the server through a PCI slot.
- Routers: connected to at least two networks, they decide which direction packets of network data should travel.
- Hubs: they can include routers and switches and are places where data converges and is sent to other places in the network.
- Switches: simpler and faster than a router, they select a path or circuit for sending a unit of data to its next destination.
- GBICs: short for gigabit interface converter, they convert electric currents to optical signals (and vice versa) at rates of one gigabit per second or more.
